Christine Brennan shares her Father's Day story. Before Title IX became a law, I had my own personal Title IX in my father, Jim Brennan. When most girls in the 1960s were being told that they couldn't play sports, my father was throwing a baseball with me on summer nights and telling me I could do anything I wanted to do. He was taking me to University of Toledo and Michigan football games, to Toledo Mud Hens and Detroit Tigers baseball games. He was teaching me how to play golf, and taking me and my younger siblings -- not his buddies -- to play 18 holes with him on Sunday afternoons. He also taught me how to appreciate and love watching sports. This is why, years later, I enjoyed inviting him to the Olympics, to the Rose Bowl, to our last visit to Tiger Stadium. Just returning the favor, so to speak.
